Cosie's recent illness caught all of us by surprise. We all know how tough she is. She has suffered through Lupus for over 20 years, has had major back and neck fusion surgeries, has a steel rod and screws in her lower leg from a traumatic break of her lower leg due to the effects that steroid treatment for Lupus flares have had on her body, she has also battled kidney failure, and recovered from a heart attack. We have no doubt that she will successfully win the fight against this newest battle, Acute Myeloid Leukemia. 


While on vacation with her friends in North Myrtle Beach the last week of September 2017, Cosie's friends became very concerned about her health. She had quit eating, was extremely lethargic, and also seemed breathless. After a phone call to her daughter, we got the ball rolling and insisted she be seen in an ER in Myrtle Beach. That very night, Tuesday Sept. 26, 2017, we knew something was seriously wrong. Initial lab work showed a WBC(white blood cell count) of 145,000, Hemoglobin of 4.8, and a platelet count of 6. After being transferred from that hospital to one in Florence, SC, then to MUSC in Charleston, SC,  she was successfully flown to The James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio with the hopes of getting the proper medication started to put this AML into remission.
