Cooper was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his brain on December 9, 2016. He underwent successful removal of the tumor on December 13 , 2016, and received a combination of proton therapy (a version of radiation therapy with lower side effects) and chemotherapy over the course of 2017, concluding in early 2018. He will have checkups, diet management & supplementation for years to come to help offset and manage some of the late effects of both the disease and its taxing treatment protocol.
