Welcome to Cookie’s CaringBridge Site.
Cookie has been diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell lung cancer. This page is being managed primarily by her youngest daughter, Patty. Cookie will also add journal entries from time to time.
At this time we are still waiting on further tests before her oncologist creates a treatment plan for her.
Cookie is doing quite well all things considered. She is on oxygen and will be for the foreseeable future. It is helping her considerably. For any of you who witnessed her difficulty breathing or her coughing fits you will be reassured to know the oxygen has lessened those conditions considerably.

While we wait for a full diagnosis we are working towards keeping her life as normal as possible. I even have a golf time set up for us next week. Nothing is keeping her from doing what she loves most. Speaking of that, all of her children have spent time with her and having each of us around has boosted her spirits.

Cookie has touched the lives of so many and that is evident by all the people who reached out to her in the past weeks. As we move forward in her journey we are asking everyone to check in here on her site for updates and to send messages to her here as well. This will give her the opportunity to check in when she has the energy as she may not always be up to answering her phone.

Many of you have asked how you can help during this time. Our number one request is for prayer. Specifically for Cookie’s overall wellness; mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical. She has a great attitude and we pray that positivity will continue. We also ask you to pray for Jerry, her husband of 56 years. It’s never easy to see the one you love most go through anything difficult and this is definitely hard on him as well. Prayer for her doctors as they develop and carry out a plan of treatment. And prayer for all of us to lean into the mighty power of God and accept His will in all of it.

Beyond prayer we will be asking for help with meals. There is a link on this site for a Meal Train. If you live too far away to make and deliver a meal there is an option to provide a meal via GrubHub or restaurant gift card.

I cannot express to you how much your love and support means to Cookie and all of her family. She has said how great her life is and how much of that is because of the people God placed in it. Thank you for taking the time to check in here. I will update as often as possible.
