On Monday, January 8th 2018, Toni and Conor were taking Eric to work at Holdingford High School. On their way back, Toni, being the well trained and cautious driver that she is, took a corner slowly due to the ice. All the same, she lost control of the truck, and while trying to correct this, was hit by a driver going the other direction. This happened on County Road 9 in the Avon/ St. Anna area. A call was made to the Stearns County sheriff's department at 8:23am. The truck was very much totaled, but all were able to exit the vehicle without assertive technology .
Toni and Conor were transported to St. Cloud Hospital via ambulance. After an initial CT scan of Conor, a brain hemorrhage was seen and he was airlifted to Children's in Minneapolis. Toni was first told she had some broken ribs and bruising to her spleen and liver. Eric got a ride from his sister Angelica to be with Conor in Minneapolis, while his mother held the fort there.
The surgery went well. The doctors said that the injury was to the right side of his brain, and this was better than the left, as that is where language centers are, so this is hopeful to leave less long-term damage for him. He spent the night with a breathing tube in.
Conor had surgery for his hemorrhage, and was sedated to help him rest. Toni was having troubles with nausea meanwhile.
On the morning of January 9th, Conor had a new CT scan. Some liquid was seen, so a new CT was ordered for noon to see if this area changed in size at all. The results showed it did not.
Toni was told that day as well that she has whiplash and a concussion.
