Hello friends/family:

We are so excited to welcome our second baby Connor Rhodes Collins to our family. He is due to be here sometime mid April.

As many may know we discovered at about 20 weeks that he will be born with a complex heart defect. He has double outlet right ventricle, an unbalanced av canal, and a dysplastic pulmonary valve. This will result in him being a single ventricle patient. Basically the rest of his life he will be using half his heart.

After much research and talking to surgeons, we have decided to have him at CHOP (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia). Our surgeon, Dr. Chen seems very confident he can help Connor and even attempt to do this complex heart surgery bloodless.(Through this journey we have learned that basically no surgeon will guarantee a bloodless surgery on a newborn but finding someone who is willing to try is great.)

We have so many loving friends that we decided to use this website as a primary source of updating people. That way we can alleviate our parents from having to send mass messages and answer questions they don’t know the answer to. My best friend Pepper will also have access to the site to make updates in our behalf.

Many have expressed how sorry they are that this  has happened to us. While we appreciate that sentiment we are trying not to feel sorrow. We are very hopeful. His ultrasounds show all his other organs are growing normal and he is by far a stronger kicker than our Noah,  if that means anything. Point being said,  we have good reason to be hopeful and not sorry.

Of course this has not been easy for us. We have many fears but our surgeon, cardiologist and doctors seem confident so we chose to be too. In addition we are so thankful this whole situation is temporary. We look forward to the real life in Jehovah’s new system. This is just a small chapter of our lives.

Love you all,

The Collins (Malcolm,Christina and Noah)
