On August 30th, my mom had a stroke while she was being seen by her doctor for an unrelated lung infection and stomach pain. They rushed her to the Emergency Room, and a CT scan and angiogram showed that a blood vessel coming off of an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) had ruptured near her brainstem. The stroke caused right sided weakness, double vision, slurred speech, and difficulties with breathing and swallowing. She was in the ICU for 12 days and was hospitalized at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary's Campus in Rochester for about a month total. She is home now and continues to impress us all with her commitment to recovery.

As my mom continues to recover, we hope to use this site to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
