I have had several blogs in the past....one from when I lived in Japan and another when my bestie Karen and I started training for our 1/2 marathon. This is a blog I never thought I would have to start. 

Tuesday, October 18, 2016 will be a date forever ingrained in my memory. This is the day that we found out MaMa had breast cancer, Invasive Ductile Carcinoma to be exact.  A few days later we found out that it was Stage 3 and was in her lymph nodes.  We opted to get a second opinion because we wanted to make sure that she received the best care possible. We opted for her to get treatment in Greenville at The Leo Jenkins Cancer Center which is part of East Carolina University Medical School. My sister and mom met with the head of the oncology department and a slew of other doctors, oncologists, social workers, etc today and decided that that this is where she will seek treatment.  I will take her on Friday to get her port and an echo cardiogram. She gets a PET scan Monday evening to see if the cancer has spread to any other organs. MaMa will start Chemo in about two weeks. She will have chemo for 4-6 months,  then  a mastectomy and radiation following that every day for 4-6 weeks.  

She has been through so much in her life. So much more than most people endure in a lifetime. As we get updates, I will keep everyone informed here. Love you all.  Continue to keep us in your prayers and thoughts. Keep sending those positive vibes as well!
