Bunky Grimes Clarence "Bunky" Grimes

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Friday night September 29th, Bunky had back surgery at UT Southwestern Hospital, in Dallas,  in an attempt to rid himself of some long term back pain, and to correct a bow in his back.  The surgery was quite successful and as always he proved to be an over achiever.  Although we thought it was a little early to go home, Bunky was released from the hospital on October 6th.  Within a week, his incision became badly infected.  Bunky then saw a local doctor on the 13th.  By the 19th, his infection had become so bad he had to be taken to the emergency room in Longview. He was at Christus GSMC for 10 days.  With his infection worsening, he was then returned to UT Southwestern Hospital via ambulance and admitted to ICU.  Bunky endured 3 separate procedures to clean his infection as well as needing to reduce swelling from his spinal cord.  Somewhere during the course of these procedures, Bunky lost feeling in his legs and feet and remains paralyzed to this date.  He is currently doing well in rehab to build up his upper body to accomplish the skills that will enable him to live a more fulfilling life without the use of his legs.  Bunky still lives with daily abdominal pain, but seems to be lessening day by day.   As of this date, he still has an abscess of infection that is a daily battle.
