When Claire fell and broke his hip in 2016, I started this Caring Bridge Site to help keep friends and loved ones informed. I was delighted to find that the site it is still here so that I can add dad's current status and updates. Over the past couple of years, he has struggled with chronic Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) that have required ambulance rides and emergency room visits on more than a few occasions. Due to cognitive decline, it has become almost impossible to keep dad hydrated as he no longer perceives thirst. A few months ago we hired a home health company to provide IV fluids three days a week, however, after several weeks it became very difficult for the nurse to find a usable vein. Dad was scheduled to have a chest port placed but ended up in the hospital with another UTI before that could take place. After his hospital stay, it became apparent that his body was no longer able to absorb and utilize fluids properly and his doctor recommended hospice care. This was a difficult decision to make, but the whole family agreed that it was the right direction to take.  Dad is 91 years old and has led a good life and we don't want him to suffer any longer.  We appreciate your prayer support and words of hope and encouragement as we celebrate a life well lived.
