Hi this is Pam, Cindy's "little sister". Welcome to our CaringBridge website. I am using it to keep family and friends updated about Cindy. Everyone has asked when this happened and how it came about.
For the past few years, Cindy has been treated for a herniated disk in her back and hip pain. She's had numerous steroid shots, physical therapy and MRIs. On Halloween she started to experiance severe abdonminal pain. Two days later, the night the Cubs won the World Series, she went to the ER thinking she had appendicitis. After nunerous tests, the doctors determined that the pain was coming from her Ovary. After lots of diagnostic tests, on November 29th, Cindy was diagnossed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer. Her Doctor said that, Ovarian Cancer is usually diagnosed at an advanced stage and typically presents it's self as something else. The treatment plan is 9 weeks of Chemo, Sugery, then 9 more weeks of Chemo. The Doctor said that they have had very good results with this treatment and that patients seem to tolerate it well.
Cindy needs everyone to be positive. Keep that "We Can Do It" attitude. She needs everyone's thoughts, prayers, and words of encouragement. Cindy will need your help and understanding; as she will be cutting back on her activities; including her work schedule. Because of this, I have set up a Go Fund Me Page to help with the incidentals of life ( www.gofundme.com/cindy-smullin-we-got-this). The sharing of your time, talent or treasure will be greatly appreciated.
Anyone who knows Cindy knows that she is a generous, caring, and a fun-loving person. She is everyone's cheerleader and now she needs you to be her cheerleader. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting our page.
