On May 16th it was confirmed that my sister Cindy has Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) or Liver Cancer. She is in Stage 3A N0 M0 ( It has not spread to nearby lymph nodes (N0) or to distant sites (M0)). This has been a big shock not only to Cindy but to our entire family.
In January, two tumors were found in her liver from a CT scan by accident. Cindy has been feeling fine so this was a surprise. Due to several MRI's back then, it was decided not to do a biopsy on the larger one due to it's location and risk factor, and that it did not look like cancer. In April she had a follow up CT scan and it showed the larger tumor had grown and a biopsy was done. From her appointment yesterday, Cindy found out that the larger tumor is an uncommon cancer and that it is curable and the smaller tumor was benign. This was all good news, and we thank God. She will be meeting with Doctors at University Colorado Hospital (UC Health) for further tests and next steps. This will hopefully result in liver surgery to remove the cancer (80% of the liver). This will not be an easy journey for her but she is ready for the challenge.
