Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Family members will use this website to update everyone about Chuck’s progress and his care plan.   Thank you for visiting!

As you probably heard, Chuck had a medical emergency on Thursday, August 2 while traveling with Rose to a family reunion in Ohio. After being treated in the emergency room in a small local hospital in Tennessee, he was transported to ICU at a regional hospital in Knoxville. Chuck’s immediate family has been in Knoxville supporting one another and working with his medical team to coordinate his care.

There are lots of questions about what caused Chuck’s medical emergency. We were told initially that he suffered a heart attack, but all indications show that that is not what occurred, nor did he suffer a stroke. Why his heart stopped beating is still unknown. What we do know is that he was without oxygen for some period of time and that he is in a coma now. He basic systems are functioning and his reflexes are intact. There does appear to be some neurological impact, but the extent is unknown.

Due to where this all occurred, Chuck has been receiving care at Physicians Regional Hospital in Knoxville. A transfer to MUSC in Charleston SC is in the works. The family has advocated and coordinated with his care team to have him transferred to a hospital with a strong Neurology team that is closer to home.

Thank you for your well-wishes, prayers, and support!
