Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support , your prayers, and your words of hope and encouragement. We deeply appreciate the many spontaneous offers of help  during my surgery and recovery. Thank you for visiting.

I have been living with and managing primary liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) for more than 2 years.  The next step in my management plan is liver transplant surgery.  While this should be a definitive treatment for this cancer, it is also a complex surgery with a life time commitment to on going management.  This treatment increases the risk of certain other cancers developing  in the years ahead. Immunosuppression therapy  brings with it increased risks of infection.  The surgery also offers the best chance for long term survival with a return to normal life.

Betsy and I recently celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary. We have been very blessed. We take on this challenge together with the confidence that the treatment will succeed. We are looking forward to many more good years together!
