Chris went to the ER at CCH early on Thursday, 1/28. He was experiencing a great deal of back pain, which he attributed to lifting a barrel of grain while feeding the family's cows. Once at the ER, Chris was given medication to help with the pain, and in the course of routine testing, it was determined that he had pneumonia. He was admitted to the hospital and began a round of antibiotics. More tests revealed that this didn't seem like normal pneumonia, and additional testing was done. Results from these tests, and the recommendation of the hospitalist at CCH, led us to believe it would be wise to seek advice from specialists at Duke or UNC. It appeared that doors were opening at Duke, (Thanks Sally, Laura and Mary!) so we moved forward with that plan.
