As most of you know, Chris has been Type 1 Diabetic, insulin dependent the majority of his life. He goes in for rountine blood work and that is how they found out that he is in kidney failure. He really had no symptoms, feeling great. So you can imagine what a shock this has been to us.
Once the lab results came in Chris was immediately admitted into the hospital. There they did a billion more tests (yes, we were convienced the first 28 tests were wrong,) and confirmed that his kidneys are only working at 6%. From there we discussed the limited options he has right now. HIs options are basically do nothing and not last very long, or go on Dialysis and get on the transplant lists for not only a kidney, but a pancreas too. Needless to say, Chris knows he has a lot to live for so we have already started dialysis. He did two treatments in the hospital and then one so far in a center. His normal dialysis schedule will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday for four hours in the evening.
We will use this sight to keep everybody updated on what is happening, donor information and what help we may need in the future. Thanks so much for all of the kind words, texts, calls and messages... I'm very sorry I haven't gotten back to everybody.... It's just hard right now. Also, huge thanks for everybody watching out for our babies. I know that they are four teenagers and fairly self sufficient, but their well being means the world to us.
