Chris's Story
My son Chris  is now 35 years old .  Three weeks ago Chris called a family meeting at our house.  He had something to tell us and wanted the whole family to tell us his news at the same time.  After dinner Faye pressed to hear what he had to tell us.  With incredible strength he told us that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer in his right lung.   Also it had gotten into the adrenal gland and lymph nodes near the lungs.  All he and Karen could say was"its BAD"!  We all were stunned.  Sandra our other daughter in law has luekemia and is familiar with language of cancer treatments.  She was able to help us understand some of what to expect.
i have been with Chris on two occasions when there was nothing I could do to help him.  Daddy is supposed to be able to fix anything. Right?   Daddy can't fix this or explain it or undo it.  All I can do is ache for him.  The other time was about 12 years ago when his young wife was tragically killed in an auto accident.  I experienced that same helpless feeling then as well.
But as difficult as it was Chris put his shattered life back together.  He met and married Karen and they share three beautiful children with us.  Mitchel is seven, Ethan is five and Emma is fifteen months.  God has blessed us more than we could ever imagine.  God's providence is amazing!
While Chris was realigning his life he decided to continue his education.   His achievements include a bachelors degree in accounting, a masters in accounting.  He has earned his certificate and is a Certified Public Accountant.  He earned employee of the year award at AFLAC.
He has the heart of an overcomer.  God gave him the determination to succeed in marriage, in education, in parenthood and in employment.   God will be glorified by the healing He is doing in Chris 's body.  We give Him praise now  for healing Chris!
Update 12/17/17: Chris has been taking Optivo treatments for several weeks now.  He had a scan done to determine if the treatments are working.  The results confirm that indeed it's working.  Chris has gained several pounds (almost back to pre-cancer weight) he feels much better and is working regularly.   God has done an amazing work in his family.   He has drawn Chris and Karen close to himself and has use Chris's story to touch lives all around him with a story of hope and encouragement that only the Spirit of God can give.  Chris has grown more this year than and period in his life!  We praise God for all He is doing and has done!
