On Thursday, April 18th, Chris “Moose” Mongeau went with his wife Stacy to Cooley Dickinson Hospital to get his back looked at, and to check out what was causing his shortness of breath. After an extensive work up; one blood test that tests cardiac enzymes was through the roof. With no hesitation he was admitted and an echocardiogram was scheduled for first thing the next morning. Not to long after, the doctor came in and said “we are transferring you to Baystate Medical”. After arriving Moose was then sent directly to the cath lab where it was determined that he had a heart attack earlier in the week. At the same time they discovered blockages in the 3 major arteries of his heart. The cardiologist said the only treatment was bypass surgery. After speaking with the cardiac surgeon he determined that a quadruple bypass would be needed to save his life. Moose will be out of work for 6-8 weeks, possibly longer bearing there are no complications. His wife Stacy will be graduating from Nursing school in 2 weeks. Needless to say they’re income will be greatly affected. Moose & Stacy also care for their 3 year old grandson. This was an unexpected event that no one can ever prepare for. Moose as well as his wife Stacy have always helped others in need, and never asked for anything in return. Moose’s bigger than life personality is one of the things that everyone loves! People enjoyed watching him perform with other amazing musicians throughout Western MA. Unfortunately, that will be put on hold as he endures months of recovery.
