As you all know last year in May 2016 my dad went to the ER because he was having some toe pain.  He had been dealing with the pain for a week prior and had been to his PCM on several different occasions for different testing. Nothing was working and that is what landed him in the ER. Once he went in labs were drawn and at this point it was just a waiting game. HEM-ONC Dr’s came to the bedsid and started to explain his white blood cell count was extremely high and they were thinking some type of Leukemia. They admitted him to the oncology ward and that started a 6 month journey in the hospital and rehab facilities for us all. After spending months in the ICU and the burn ward due to ECMO he ended up with a trach. He was finally released from the hospital and sent to a rehab facility called Acuity who specializes in getting patients off of trachs. While there he learned how to talk again and eat again. Once he finished his therapy there he went to warm springs rehab where he had to do more intense rehab on a daily basis.  About a week before Thanksgiving he was discharged and able to come home. He was on oxygen and needed a little assistance but he was home. What a great Thanksgiving!!! Now we have reached December 2017  and it’s time for transplant. His brother was a perfect match! Now on December 27 he will have a brand new immune system. Over the time he was admitted to the hospital they did not think he was going to make it but again like I said here it is 2017 and he is about to undergo his transplant! He has beat the odds thoughout this process and will continue to beat the odds with Gods help!
