Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. - From Lisa Cunningham - Chris had been sick for several weeks with no clear idea from the doctors what exactly was happening with him. Over this past weekend, Chris's condition deteriorated. His headaches became extreme and he couldn't hold down anything he ate or drank. Saturday night (2/18) around 8:00 pm Lyn and I took him to Children's ER.
They did an MRI and determined within an hour or so that Chris had an abscess in his brain. They transferred him downtown and operated on him around 1:00 in the morning.
The neurosurgeons are pleased with the results, but the surgery was dangerous and significant. They had to remove a section of his skull above his right ear in order to remove the infection, and, assuming full recovery, they won't plan to graft over the hole for three to six months.
The surgeons also expect him to be in hospital for at least two weeks, maybe more.
