On Halloween I saw my dermatologist for an annual check up - the first one in a year in a half as my prior provider had stopped seeing patients (last apt. was in March, 2016). During the halloween appointment, the Dermatologist took a chunk out of the top of my hand - it was an 'age spot' - according to my previous Dermatologist who had looked at it. It had been bothering me, and I had been picking at it. The new Dermatologist thought it was nothing, but wanted to remove it since it was bothering me. I got the results yesterday - melanoma - I didn't hear many words after that one, but I believe it is at least 1.2 mm, and extends into the 'second layer' of skin. I will soon have hand surgery to remove any remaining tumor cells, a possible sentinel lymph node biopsy, and who knows what after that depending on what they find.
