Cheryl Hull Sumerlin

On December 17, 2015 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.  I have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.  After many different doctor visits with the breast surgeon, radiology oncologist, medical oncologist, and plastic surgeon, I have decided that a bilateral mastectomy is the best form of treatment to erradicate the cancer and not have it return.  Trust me, this hasn't been an easy decision.  Medically speaking it is pretty simple; emotionally it is not.
I am very grateful to be surrounded by many, many great friends and family members during this time.
I have come to the realization that I won't be able to do EVERYTHING after my surgery.  In truth, the only thing my doctors want me to do is get healthy and recover. Over the next few months, and even over the next year, I am going to need some help.  It is truly hard for me to ask others to do something that I am usually capable of doing, but I know that the best way for me to heal and get healthy is to let others help me.

Welcome to the CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.  I will keep you posted of my recovery and what I need through this site.  Please feel free to visit the site, and visit me!
