Charlie Funk

Charlie was in a serious bicycle accident while on vacation in the Pender Island of British Columbia on August 8th.  He broke his neck and sustained a spinal cord injury.  He was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital, and surgery was performed by an incredible surgeon and person, Dr. Brian Kwon.  

Charlie spent three weeks recovering in the ICU at VGH, making progress each and every day.  We are thankful for the high-quality, compassionate medical care Charlie received during his time in Vancouver.  

On Monday, August 29, Charlie was transported via air ambulance to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago where he will spend the next few months completing inpatient rehabilitation.  This is one of the country's top rehab programs, and we are excited to see what he will be able to achieve.  Charlie is eager to get to work and is determined to tackle the road ahead with measured positivity.  Connie has also arrived in Chicago and is setup in Shirley Ryan's family housing, a short two blocks from the facility.  The family continues to work as a team to keep spirits high.
