On Friday morning Charlie took a bad fall.  We believe he may have blacked out as he fell backwards and landed on his head.  Kiki and Henrietta worked in tandem to get him to the hospital - Hen dialing 911 and communicating with me about everything on the phone coupled with Kiki trying to give Charlie CPR listening to instructions from the 911 operator.  The ambulance came and got him to Advocate Illinois Masonic quickly.  My sister in law Sue and my very dear friend Eda Davidman came to the house immediately to help the girls.  I was in in NYC at the time trying to handle things on the phone.  Charlie was in/out of it but slowly it became apparent that things were getting worse.  A CT scan was done which showed bleeding in his brain.  Two hours later his symptoms worsened and another CT scan showed increased bleeding and swelling in his brain.  He was transferred to the surgical ICU (SICU) and a drain placed in his head to relieve the pressure.
Charlie remains in the SICU at Advocate Illinois Masonic.  He is  heavily sedated and and not alert to anything going on around him.  The doctors have said this will be the case for the next number of days.  The doctors are still trying to reduce the swelling around the brain as well as the bleeding. There is a big chance that there has been brain damage.   We are just taking everything day to day.   We started this story as it help start the communication  process amongst all that are near and dear to Charlie.   We will keep this updated to keep you all informed with his  progress. xo.   Portia, Kiki & Hen
