Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Here's what's going on: Just before Halloween we noticed a lump on Charlie's throat. The very next day we were at West Cancer Center with a tentative Oral Cancer diagnosis. Multiple tests and biopsies later, it has been confirmed. Today a very important biopsy was performed on a lymph node distant from the primary site. The doctor, Benny Wexler, liked the appearance of that node ... which is great news!  PLEASE pray with us that the pathology findings are the same! We want this biopsy to be NEGATIVE. (Staging will rely on this pathology report.) For the past few weeks, Charlie has had AMAZING care. He has the utmost confidence in West Cancer Center and their physicians and staff. However, we would feel negligent if we did not go for a second opinion.  So on November 28th Charlie will be seen at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL.
In the meantime, this Wednesday he will be measured and fitted for a radiation mask in hopes of beginning treatment on December 5th. The treatment plan, as we understand it at this time is daily radiation (Monday through Friday) with chemo once a week for 6-8 weeks.  The results of today's biopsy will determine the final treatment plan.
Charlie's an EXCELLENT patient! His attitude is extraordinary ... probably not a surprise to many of you! Now here's a shocker - He is cooperating in trying to "bulk up" since he will most likely lose weight during treatment . This is SO against everything he's stood for these past several years! (TRYING to drink milk shakes, trying to eat even when he's not hungry, trying to eat high protein, high caloric foods...) He's trying! He's preparing the skin on his throat where radiation will wreak havoc in order to kill the cancer inside. He has set up an office here at home ... so now LSB is just a click away! The girls have all been home and have helped us get ready for this "bump in the road." It's been beautiful getting to experience our grown (and nearly grown) children show their compassion in both word and deed. We are SO VERY blessed!
PLEASE KNOW that we made wholehearted attempts to reach everyone before this would be coming out in writing. We had trouble finding some current phone numbers (are we the only people on the planet with both a land line and an AOL account still?????) and some current email addresses.  Please feel free to share this information as we are recruiting as many Prayer warriors as possible! We can feel the prayers already!
Charlie's Journey can be followed here on his Caring Bridge Site: caringbridge.org/visit/charliebargiachi   This can also be accessed by Googling: Charlie Bargiachi | Caring Bridge    We have tried to make this as accessible as possible ... we really want to keep in touch if we can. I'm afraid there will be some days when Charlie's going to need all of the love, prayer and encouragement he can get ... we'll be counting on you! There's already so many people to thank for prayers, Masses, sacrifices, gifts, food, help with hotels, help with medical resources, sharing of experiences, preparing the house and also the many offers for everything and anything! There's no way to thank all of you here and now. Please know that you are on this list because you are an important person in Charlie's life and in the life of our family, so we want you to know what's going on to the extent that you want to know. Further updates shouldn't be this long ...
We thank you and love you!!!!
