10 days ago we found out dad was having some problems as he had lost a lot of weight. Mom was concerned and brought him in to see the doctor.  That is when information and appointments began to flow really fast. Today was an important day.  We met with the Oncologist and finally learned the degree to which dad is dealing with cancer.  He has stage 4 lung cancer.  The cancer has metastasized to much of his body including his lymph nodes in the neck and other parts of the chest.  He has a tumor in his lung, one in the kidney, and one near his ribs.  Dad also has pneumonia (lungs filling up with fluid).  He will have a PET scan and head MRI on Friday to learn if the cancer has spread also to his brain. If the cancer has spread to his brain the timeline becomes more unpredictable with the treatment options of radiation and chemotherapy.  If dad chooses to fight the optimistic average is 2 years, and if he does nothing likely 6 months or less.  We ask for your thoughts and prayers for chuck, my mom, and the family as we navigate the coming days, weeks, and months.  We will be asking for God to show us the way and to speak with dad on what he should do (fight, or come home)  I would encourage people to write as much as they can on this site for dad and know that we will be updating as regularly as we can with new information.  A few members of the family are making plans to see dad, but until we know the extent and more detailed timeline of things I cannot provide information on when might be the time for others to visit in person.  If you have questions, or want to talk, I can be reached (Aaron) at 651-528-1320.  I know all of us, Dad, Mom, Nicole, and I are grateful for the positive energy you will all send my dads way.
