Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting! So, here it goes:

Dave Larson (aka "Swede") began experiencing weakness in his left hand and on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, his speech also began to be affected. He and Judy were at Tee Lake, so he was taken by ambulance to LaPorte Hospital for what was thought to be stroke symptoms. CT scans showed a 3 cm mass in the frontal lobe of his brain. Dave was then transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn. The next day he underwent a craniotomy and had the tumor removed. He weathered the surgery very well, his symptoms subsided, and he was discharged on Sunday, less than 48 hours following surgery.

Dave's diagnosis is grade 4 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), same as Sen. John McCain. The next stage is radiation and oral chemotherapy to reduce/eliminate any remaining cancer cells, and regular MRIs to monitor, as it is common for these masses to return. Dave has many factors in his favor, so we are staying positive.

Dave is feeling well--three days after discharge from the hospital he was back grocery shopping! He is ready to start this journey--to quote him: "I'm sticking around to keep you laughing!"
