On Tuesday morning Shiela got a call from the Kaiser ER asking if her mom had called. Turned out Char had called 911 that morning and when she got to the hospital she had partial aphasia and no movement in her right side. CT showed a bleed in her brain but not a stroke. After an MRI she went non-responsive so they airlifted her to Sacramento. Shiela and her sister Heather (who lives in Spokane) and Heather’s husband met Char at the hospital in Sacramento. Lots of CT and MRIs later and the only conclusion is that she has what looks like a hematoma in the deep center of her left lobe.  She continues to be non-responsive and unable to swallow, speak, or move her right side. She also no longer responds when asked to do things.

On Friday, the girls found their mom’s Power of Attorney paperwork which had a clearly stated DNR order. The amazing staff the hospital who had been caring so well for Char helped the family understand that they would not be able to do more for her medically but would assist them in getting her comfortable and transported back home for hospice.
