Welcome to our CaringBridge site for Ceci Haakenson, our beautiful sister to the Haley clan, mother to Connor and Carter and wife to Lee Haakenson. We are using this site to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support, prayers and words of hope and encouragement.
On September 7th, Ceci's family learned she has a 2.5 cm tumor on her liver, a lesion on her spine and a cyst on one of her adrenal glands. Her journey through the health care system in this short period of time is not a good one. As of the writing of this first entry, she is now hospitalized and getting good care for her pain management at Baptist Medical Hospital in Jacksonville, FL where Ceci and Lee moved to just a few weeks before in August.
Ceci began experiencing a great deal of back pain throughout the spring and summer as she and Lee were preparing their home for sale prior to their move. She had thought it was a muscle pull brought on by all the moving and cleaning needed to move from their home of over 20 years. She made a promise to her sisters that when she arrived in Florida, she'd find a doctor and get help. Her pain began to escalate after their move and finally Lee took her to an urgent care for the pain. It was at that point, the tumor, lesion and cyst were found and she was sent immediately to an oncologist. She has been dealing with a great deal of pain and because of the opioid crisis, physicians are not giving more than a few days of pain med at a time and at very low doses. They have been in and out of urgent care to manage her pain while they awaited getting a PET scan, final diagnosis and treatment plan. On September 20, Lee took Ceci to the emergency room due to pain. She finally received a chest X-Ray that confirmed a mass on her lung which is believed to be the source of the cancer. She was admitted to the hospital for pain management and further testing.
