Welcome to our CaringBridge website for Catherine. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

This journey began when our 17 year old daughter Catherine started having knee pain a couple of months ago. In anticipation of tryouts for her senior year of volleyball at North Atlanta High School, she met with an Orthopedic practice for x-rays and physical therapy. The pain did not subside and only got worse. This led to an MRI, which showed a lesion in her upper left tibia. We were immediately referred to an Orthopaedic Oncologist at Emory Winship, Dr. Shervin Oskouei, who quickly diagnosed Catherine with Osteosarcoma, a cancerous tumor in her bone. The week following, Catherine had a full body bone scan, a CT chest scan and a biopsy to determine the course of action and whether the cancer had spread. The good news is that her bone scan was clean. The mixed news was the presence of a few spots on her chest scan. They are very small and we are being told that they are manageable with chemo.

Chemotherapy began immediately (May 20) at Children’s AFLAC Cancer Center at Scottish Rite and will continue for roughly 7 months. Catherine will additionally have surgery later this summer to remove the tumor.

Thank you for visiting. We greatly appreciate all the love, support and prayers!
