Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
On August 1st 2017, my sister Darcy brought Carter in to his ophthalmologist due to increased headaches and c/o double vision. Once there they referred them to the ER for an MRI. The MRI showed that the symptoms Carter was experiencing were caused by inter-cranial pressure from what appeared to be a brainstem tumor. Due to the increased pressure they and Duluth's lack of pediatric neurosurgeons they were told to go to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis immediately.  Darcy packed up her and Carter and drove to Mpls. at 1:30am where he was admitted to the PICU.
Carter immediately had a shunt placed to help drain the CSF that was building up around his brain. Over the next few days Carter had to have many MRI's and tests to help figure out what they are dealing with. On August 10th, Carter went in for surgery to have the tumor biopsied. The neurosurgeon was successful in removing the entire tumor but after pathology results came back it was found to be a Pinealoblastoma. Carter is so strong through all of this and has all the fight in him that he needs to beat this thing! The plan of attack right now is for Carter to start Radiation down at Mayo in Rochester MN for 6 weeks and the he will begin his 6 months of chemotherapy.
I will try to keep this page updated as I find out things and I encourage everyone who reads to send Carter well wishes and prayers!
