Carson was born with a heart defect called bicuspid aortic valve/aortic stenosis. We have always known that this would require intervention and the time has come. Carson is having open heart surgery at 1030 am on 12/14 (now 12/21) at Children’s Hospital in Omaha. This will involve replacing the ascending aorta to repair the dilation that has occurred after many years of having this stenosis. Also, the surgeon is going to attempt a valve repair. He feels this is the best option for Carson and we agree. We have a backup plan that involves a more extensive approach called the Ross procedure. We are praying that we do not have to do that but know it is also a viable option as well. Carson and all of the family appreciate the thoughts and prayers during this time. I will keep this site updated throughout the day Monday as well as through his stay at Children’s. They anticipate 5-10 days of hospitalization, we of course are praying for the lesser! Carson would love to see all of the prayers and well wishes from each of throughout his journey. Thank you for thinking of him!
