Mom, Carol has been living in the Assisted Living side of Lorien in Taneytown, Maryland since mid June 2017. Around Easter she was admitted to the hospital for aspiration pneumonia, a really bad UTI and a flare with her MS as well. It took quite a while for her to journey back to a functional level. By end of May, Mom's daughters realized that it would no longer be possible to care for Mom safely at home. We were fortunate to be able to get mom a room at the lovely Lorien. Mom was not that pleased as she would rather be at the farm but she was agreeable to stay fortunately.
We have a wonderful caregiver, Jessica, that comes to help Mom throughout the day at Lorien. We are blessed to have her with Mom on a daily basis since our daily lives don't allow us to be with Mom all the time.
She was on a pureed diet in May and June on the recommendation of doctors and to keep her as safe as possible to avoid having another aspiration of food and pneumonia. This served her well as Mom's grand-daughter Megan was married at the end of June and Mom in good health and was able to attend. She even walked a long, long walk down the aisle to be seated in the church. She did so with two handsome escorts on either side of her. Mom is on oxygen and has been since April and her admission to the hospital. She also is diabetic.
At the end of July, she went back to eating food the way she likes it, NOT Pureed! This has been a great joy for her.
Recently, we have seen a further decline in her health. She sleeps almost all the time and is having a harder time getting around.
