The Journey Begins

Several months ago, Carol took a bit of a spill and then experienced a great deal of hip and groin pain. After a number of X-rays and tests, she went on to consult with several specialists. Initially, she and Armen were concerned that the kidney cancer she had surgery for and survived two years ago had returned. After consulting with Dr. Osterkamp and having an MRI they became concerned that the renal cancer had returned. However, based on a subsequent biopsy of the hip area, it was determined that the primary cancer stemmed from the lungs which had spread to bone cancer and a small lesion on the brain.

Carol and Armen undertook a host of Dr visits, tests and consultations with specialists at both USC Keck and City of Hope which is where Carol had received care previously for her kidney cancer. After a great deal of research and input from a variety of resources, they decided to undergo hip replacement surgery at USC Keck with Dr. Menendez.

Surgery was scheduled for Monday, March 27. While awaiting surgery, Carol and Armen have worked diligently to prepare her and her body for surgery. On Friday evening, the ongoing pain became so intense they transported Carol to Verdugo Hills Hospital. While there, she has received excellent care and the blessing of more intense pain management.

Carol will be transported very early tomorrow morning to USC Keck Hospital to undergo hip replacement surgery. Armen has been by her side every step of the way as her supportive husband and amazing caregiver. He asks that you keep her in your prayers as she takes this first step in the journey of overcoming this nasty thing called cancer.

We'll update you as soon as we can following Carol's surgery.
