Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to share updates on Carol's progress and to communicate needs that our family has throughout this journey. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Here is our story:  Mom had been showing some gradual changes in her mood, energy level and ability to navigate life.  Because her Dad had a long journey with Alzheimer's Disease, we thought she may be starting on a similar path.  Over the past few weeks these changes increased rapidly and we took her in for an MRI on Friday, November 11th.  She was immediately sent to the ER at Methodist Hospital and was admitted to Neurosurgery with a large, cancerous mass in her right frontal lobe, likely a glioblastoma.  On Wednesday, November 16th, neurosurgeons removed as much of the tumor as possible without risking damage to healthy brain tissue.  The purpose of surgery was to stop the brain damage from progressing, but we are not expecting improvement in the cognitive and functional losses that have already occurred.  We will know more about course of treatment in the next week as she recovers from surgery, works with occupational therapy and physical therapy, and we consult with oncology.  Her goal, as always, is to get home to play with her grandchildren as soon as possible!
