I walked into the Emergency Department with a headache; the worst headache of my life. Twenty minutes before I was cleared to drive home the results of the CT scan came back. I had a mass in the cerebellum of my brain that was pushing on the brain stem. The pressure caused the headache. We learned within the next hour that the mass, about 2.5-2.7 cm was impeding the flow of spinal fluid so surgery was imminent.
We got admitted and met our neurosurgeon within the hour. Surgery was scheduled and the phone calling began. Talk about shock! Shocking to make the call and shocking to receive the call.
We've learned so much since then...at this point we know that I have Renal Cell Carcinoma. It's Stage Four kidney cancer. The stage indicates the cancer has spread. We have learned there isn't an approach to fighting this disease that happens quickly, nor is there one right answer. We'll be ready to share more when we've learned more ourselves.
Right now, I'm healing from brain surgery. Please pray for me and my family.
