Earlier this summer, just after Memorial Day, I noticed some discomfort in my abdomen where I had not had any problems before. After lots of tests to rule out simple things, I had surgery to remove an 8.5 cm mass toward the end of June. We were hopeful that initial signs indicated that the mass was benign, but on July 10th, we learned that it was cancer--leiomyosarcoma. A follow up CT scan at the end of July was mostly clear, but showed a couple of small, indeterminate spots on one of my lungs. We decided to start working with the sarcoma specialists at MD Anderson here in Houston.

Earlier this week, Tuesday, September 5th, after another CT scan, we learned that my cancer has spread to my lungs and liver. We start chemo this weekend and we want to be able to keep our family and friends well-informed as we embark on this "marathon" journey of managing this disease. We are thankful for your prayers and encouragement and for God's strength and grace that will  uphold us every step of the way. We will periodically update this site and hope to report many of the ways God is working.
