Welcome to Carly's page. We are using this site to post updates about Carly's condition until she is ready to post her own journal entries. This site was created to allow Carly’s family and friends to stay updated on her condition, especially in the early phases of her illness when her condition is changing so quickly. We ask that you post words of encouragement and direct any questions to this page where I or another member of Carly's family (and eventually Carly) will be able to view and respond to them. Thank you for your consideration during this difficult time.

Here is what we know so far:  Carly has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). There are multiple types of AML and some have worse prognosis than others. We have been relieved to find that Carly’s specific mutation is a chromosome 16 inversion, which has better prognosis than the other types. Although the specific type of mutation she has is encouraging, the early phases of this leukemia(and it’s treatment) are very dangerous. When someone gets AML their immune system becomes extremely compromised and they are at risk for many kinds of infection. Unfortunately Carly contracted a severe case of pneumonia which led to her diagnosis but has also led to her admission to the ICU.  She is currently in the ICU at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.  She is surrounded by her family and supportive boyfriend Brian. She is being cared for by an excellent team of nurses and doctors who are doing everything to help Carly fight her cancer.  Carly is currently being treated with 3 chemotherapy drugs with the goal of destroying her cancer and eventually balancing her immune system.

Unfortunately due to Carly's now non-existent immune system it is so very important protect her from any germs. Even a common cold at this point could be extremely dangerous to Carly. For this reason the family asks for no visitors to Carly’s room, during this time which could last from 4-6 weeks.

We appreciate your thoughts and prayers and will keep you all updated here as Carly kicks this cancer's butt!

The site automatically asks for donations but we are not asking for donations at this time. Thank you.
