Welcome to Carl's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Carl was diagnosed with stage four metastatic lung cancer in June 2021. Unfortunately, by the time the cancer was caught, it had spread to his bones all the way from his skull to his femur. The oncologist expected he had nine months to two years to live. His treatment began with five days of radiation on his spine and ribs. Then he began intravenous chemo treatment every three weeks. In January 2022, he had another round of radiation on his skull.

However, the cancer on his liver was not responding to the chemo. Carl's oncologist started him on a trial chemo treatment in February that he received intravenously along with an oral immunotherapy drug. He is only the eighth patient for the trial treatment at KU Med.
