Welcome to our Carla's CaringBridge website. We will be using this website to keep family and friends updated in one place.
On a Sunday morning a few weeks ago, I arrived at church and sat next to Carla. This is rare. I have my regular spot; I usually sit alone. But this morning, there was Carla. In my usual seat. I say hello and ask her " How are you?" She smiles, hesitates then says "Ok." I think "Hmm. not your typical reply." Carla is usually more enthusiastic. I can tell something was off. I've known Carla a few years. Besides belonging to the same church, we were also neighbors. Carla is one of those people you meet and never forget. She's vivacious, gracious, self-assured, easy to talk to, easy to smile. After the service, I asked, "Just ok?" She says, "I've been diagnosed with breast cancer." Shock. Carla and I spent the next hour chatting. Not about cancer or what happens next, except when I pressed her for those details. Carla wanted to relate, to bond and to live in the moment. I learned more about Carla in that hour than I have in several years I've known her. Before we went home, she says, "I'm ok." And she is.
After waiting a few weeks, Carla successfully underwent surgery yesterday (3/11/2019) at Saddleback Memorial Hospital. She is doing well. :)) Assuming and praying that all goes to plan, she will be going home - if she isn't already home - today! TODAY!!! That is wonderful news! :)) As you may know, this is only the beginning of this healing chapter. Carla has met with the team of specialists and will undergo additional treatments in the weeks to come. I want to invite you in this journey to help our friend, encourage her, support her, and rally around her. I've created a sign-up calendar to help with some of Carla's needs.
We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
