Welcome to Carla's CaringBridge website. My name is Melanie, I am Carla's older sister.  Carla, Robin, and myself will be updating this site from time to time to help share information about Carla's Journey.  We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.


On February 21st, 2019, Carla received and shared with our family,  the devastating news that she had metastatic cancer.  Her prognosis was not very promising initially, principally because they were unable to identify the primary cancer site to determine a proper treatment path for her.  Through a series of events in the past 2 weeks, Carla has been transported to MDAnderson in Houston on two separate occasions to be admitted there via their Emergency Room Department.  MDAnderson, being a world renowned Cancer Research Hospital has been running all of their own tests, imaging, and biopsies.  Last Friday (3/8/19), after also not being able to clearly define her cancer primary site, due to the extent of the metastasis in various locations, principally her abdominal organs and her bones, they did various biopsies at multiple abdominal sites to try to narrow in on a primary location that would allow the doctors to define a protocol that would target the primary cancer and give her the best chances for recovery.  So many of you have been praying steadfastly for her and today we received answered prayers.  Her team gave her the news today that the pathologies done last week have determined that her primary cancer is Breast Cancer.  For so many people, this would be the worst news they could receive, but for Carla and our family - we are overjoyed  with this news, as with all of the research that has been done in the area of breast cancer - her prognosis was instantly improved towards a more optimistic outcome even though we are acutely aware that it being metastatic, the fight will be fierce.  Our family is hunkered down together, our sleeves rolled up and ready for battle.


Pierre Corneille a Famous French Poet and Dramatist in the 17th Century wrote:  "Where there is no peril in the fight, there is no glory in the triumph" 


There is no question that God has already answered the many prayers that have been lifted up on her behalf and we are anxiously awaiting the next steps of learning her inevitable treatment plan.  We are ready for what lies ahead, Carla is strong willed (big surprise here) and has an amazing attitude.  We know that triumph and victory are entirely possible with God's grace and to Him be the glory in every step she takes going forward.


We invite you to post encouraging words as Carla will be reading these posts and when she is able and up to it - she may even post from time to time.  We will make every attempt to post every few days to keep everyone updated and thank you in advance for your prayers as we walk next to Carla through this journey.
