On February 14, 2019 Carolyn went to the emergency room as she was having difficulty breathing. An initial diagnosis of pneumonia later turned into a diagnosis of myxoma, a tumor in the heart which was blocking proper blood flow through the heart. On February 16th, Carolyn underwent open heart surgery to have the tumor removed. The surgery was successful and Carolyn began to recover from the surgery.
On February 20th, an initial pathology report came back and revealed that what the doctors had thought was a benign myxoma tumor was rather a cancerous tumor, cardiac sarcoma.
