On father's day Candy traveled to her dad's 2 hrs away to spend the day with family. She had been having some abdominal pain for a few days prior to the trip. As the day progressed the pain was increasing so when she returned home she went to the urgent care to be seen. The urgent care suspected appendicitis and sent her to the ER for imaging. After a CT it was determined that her appendix needed to be removed and she was admitted. She went to surgery the next day but the procedure was far from routine. The surgeon started laperscopic but had to switch to a traditional incision after about a half an hour. He had to remove a portion of her large intestine to get to where her appendix was due to adhesions from a previous surgery. Then he found a mass in her colon at the appendix which he removed. Suspecting cancer he also elected to take some lymph nodes which tested positive for colon cancer.
