Cameron Stakebake

On March 21, Cameron was at home with his brother Tanner and his parents in Pleasant View where an accident with fire resulted in severe burns over 2/3 of his body. He was transferred to the McKay Dee hospital by ambulance and the after being assessed there, was life-flighted to the University of Utah Burn Center in Salt Lake City shortly afterward.

Cameron arrived in Salt Lake in critical but stable condition. He is still in SLC and still in critical but stable condition. (His injuries are life threatening, but we are hopeful that Cameron will be able to overcome them.)
He and his family are facing a long, difficult recovery— at least three months in the hospital, and a long road afterward when he returns home.

Cameron is in a precarious state right now. His body has been changed drastically, but his sense of humor, his authenticity and his enthusiastic, genuine love for people is intact. He is still himself, and is still lifting the spirits of loved ones and strangers.

Many people have reached out in love and sympathy, wanting to help. A cousin of ours suggested setting up a site here at CaringBridge (thank you!) to simplify updates about Cameron and to organize opportunities to help and support Cameron and his wonderful parents, brothers and sisters. (We know that there are a lot of people who want to know how Cam is progressing!)

Your support and love are -so- appreciated!

If you’d like, you can send a note/card/gift to the address below. (Dried or live flowers or plants as well as whole fruits aren’t allowed in the burn center because they can carry bacteria, and many burn victims have compromised immune systems.)

More than anything else, we ask that you include Cameron in your prayers—or, if prayer isn’t your thing, please send positive thoughts his way.

Much love and gratitude,
Val (one of Cameron’s adoring Aunts)
