Burley was diagnosed with Stage 4 Esophageal Cancer in November of 2015. He has endured many biopsy, chemotherapy and radiation treatments. With every scan it was as if we were holding our breath to see if this was working and it appeared to be until his next scan and there were more tumors in the soft tissue in his hip and back. He started another round of radiation when they discovered a tumor on his scalp and a biopsy was done and another scan. This revealed that not only was the one on his scalp cancer but that there was a tumor on his brain stem and a few smaller ones in the brain. The cancer had spread again. He was told by his oncologist that they could do a Gamma knife treatment but this was a one time a year procedure that they are not guaranteed. That the cancer was spreading and it was up to him whether to continue treatment or stop he was told he had 6 to 12 months . He had the Gamma Knife treatment but that did not work. Burley courageously decided to end all treatment and enter into hospice care at home.
