On August 22, I received a shocking diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) with the Philadelphia positive chromosome.  Since the moment we received word, we've been buoyed by an outpouring of support and love from family and friends. I know we will continue to rely on this strength to assist us through the long path to remission and recovery.

Sandy and I will use this site to post updates as I am having difficulty keeping up with personal messages. I do appreciate all the good vibes and am using that energy to fuel me!

For the last 3+ months, I've been treated at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Though relatively rare, Philadelphia positive ALL  treatment has changed dramatically in recent years.  I’ve responded favorably to my first round of treatment (oral chemo and cocktail of medicines plus periodic intrathecal chemo).  All things considered, I am tolerating the meds and gritting through the spinal chemo. The goal in this first phase is to get to a deep remission and prepare my body for a new bone marrow. Fortunately due to a generous German donor, I have a bone marrow match and will be undergoing a bone marrow transplant later this month.

I am currently in the pre-transplant testing and prep phase getting poked and prodded, but still able to muscle through and enjoy some of Hans’ winter competitions. Thanks again for your support! Onward - Bryan
