Bryan Berry Double Transplant Journey

First post: Nov 5, 2018 Latest post: Nov 28, 2018
Welcome to our CaringBridge website. This journey had a quick start and we are still processing a lot of information as we continue to move forward towards Bryan's transplants. In mid-September 2018, Bryan went to the doctor because he wasn't feeling great and had unusual swelling in his abdomen and legs. This appointment quickly turned into a week in the hospital with every test you can think of and lots of blood work. Bryan was diagnosed with Stage 4 (of 4) liver failure and Stage 3 (of 5) kidney failure. When we were sent home, it was with a very low sodium diet and medicine that was hoped to keep things stabilized while a plan was made.

Doctor appointments continued with more tests and blood work. When some kidney levels weren't staying where they should be with the medicine, Bryan was admitted to the hospital again so IV meds could help get them under control. During this time, it was decided that not only would Bryan need a liver transplant, but his kidneys just weren't going to be able to recover so they would need a transplant as well.

As soon as he completes the pre-testing required for the transplant in Charlotte, NC, a date will be scheduled for us to spend the day at the hospital meeting with all of the necessary groups/teams prior to a transplant. It is estimated that once that meeting is complete, a transplant is likely to take place within days.

Thank you for your continued prayers for this journey. It is absolutely humbling to have so many people reach out and offer to help and send prayers!
