On the morning of Tuesday, August 7th, Bruce suffered a major stroke. He was rushed to Community Memorial Hospital where it was determined that the stroke was due to a blood clot on the left side of his brain. The emergency staff administered  tPA  to dissolve the clot, but doctors felt it would be necessary for Bruce to undergo a procedure at Froedtert Hospital in order to place a stent in his left middle cerebral artery and to remove the remainder of the clot. The procedure was successful, and the next morning, feeling and movement were starting to return to Bruce's right side. He also began speaking again. On Friday, August 10th, Bruce was transferred back to Community Memorial Hospital where he received inpatient rehabilitation including  speech, physical, and occupational therapy. He was discharged to home on August 14th.

On Wednesday, August 8th, our family dog, Mitsu, was injured in a hit-and-run accident. She suffered a ruptured bladder, several pelvic fractures and internal bleeding. She had a surgery to repair her torn bladder on Friday, August 10th. After getting her medical status stabilized and further observation and evaluation by the veterinary staff, it was determined that her soft tissue pelvic injuries were so extensive that we felt that for Mitsu's sake it would be best to let her go. Mitsu passed away surrounded by her family who loved her very much.
