On August 25, 2018, after two weeks of discomfort, Bruce went to Mayo Hospital and received his first abdominal paracentesis to remove fluid from his abdomen. Within hours, the doctors determined that there were malignant cancer cells in the fluid that was removed from his abdomen.
Two weeks of tests and appointments have concluded that Bruce has Stage IV Lymphoma; the type and grade will be determined in the coming week, but it has been classified as an aggressive form of Lymphoma.
The good news (despite the very bad news we’ve received): A PET scan completed this week confirmed that there is no sign of cancer in his organs.
Bruce will have a semi-permanent tube placed in his abdomen, so he can manage the fluid buildup in his abdomen at home (vs. trips to the clinic or hospital when fluid builds up to an uncomfortable level).
Bruce is a loved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. We are devastated by this news and continue to pray for the gift of time and comfort in the days, weeks, and months ahead.
