Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. We kindly ask for you to pray for healing and comfort for our sweet little boy. Additionally, we ask you to keep his medical staff in your prayers as well so that they may be able to make the best decisions possible for our son.
On the evening of October 27th, Brody went into respiratory distress at home. They airlifted us to Children's at VCU in Richmond and he's been in the pediatric ICU since. He tested positive for the rhinoentero virus. It's fairly common this season, but because of his age it hit him much harder than the average kid. Since it's viral, there's no specific antibiotic they can give him. The virus just has to run its course. They've made multiple attempts to improve his breathing, but sadly he had to be intubated and the machine is mostly breathing for him. This was extremely difficult to have to see. The natural progression of the virus is to "peak" at its worst between day 3-5 and the doctors feel that we've now reached that point. As difficult as it is to see your baby knocked out, I know that it helps allow him to conserve his energy so his body can fight the virus more efficiently. We're hoping to see improvements soon. The doctors really can't tell me when he'll be able to come home. They're estimating roughly 2-3 more weeks, but that all depends on his progress. We're literally taking it hour by hour. He's heavily sedated and they seem to be managing his discomfort well. The staff here is amazing. They're extremely proactive and I know he's in the best hands.
I'm staying at the Ronald McDonald House here in Richmond and my mom is in town helping Sean hold down the fort. The girls are doing well and we're trying to keep their days as normal as possible. Many of you have reached out to us, shared kind words, and asked how you can help. We're truly grateful for your love and support. As you can imagine, we're absolutely devastated and are still in shock that this is happening to our sweet baby. All that we ask at this time is for you to keep Brody in your prayers. It's what we need the most at this time. The power of prayer is amazing and we know he'll come through just fine, we just have to be patient. We'll update soon on his progress.
