Brianna was recently diagnosed with Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) which is a form of liver cancer. Due to this diagnosis, she will receive an injection of a specialized chemotherapy agent directly into her liver and will need a liver transplant. She has already been listed with UNOS for a new liver, but we do not know at this time when she will receive one. Hopefully it will be soon. Unfortunately, her liver cancer is yet another serious side affect she is faced with due to the harsh chemotherapy and radiation treatments she received as a baby for leukemia (AML) when she was only 9 months old. In 2011, Brianna received a heart transplant due to congestive heart failure in 2010 caused by chemo-induced dilated cardiomyopathy. Since then, some of the more serious issues she has also dealt with are pancreatitis, kidney disease, several diabetes and endocrine issues, numerous orthopedic surgeries, and has had a magnetic plate surgically implanted for her BAHA Cochlear hearing device.
Brianna has been a fighter for the past 16 years and she will not let yet another obstacle keep her down. She continues to attend High School (as a Freshman), work at Culver's, and do the things she loves while she goes through treatment and waits for her new liver. Her positive attitude, strong will, and determination will help her through this, along with a lot of support from her family and friends. Please keep Brianna in your thoughts and prayers.
